Nigel Godrich brings back From the Basement with IDLES

Nigel Godrich has brought back From the Basement, his studio session series, for a third season. IDLES open it on YouTube on 1 June at 6pm, and Sons Of Kemet, Warpaint, Caribou, Squid and Nilüfer Yanya follow in episodes that run until October. As in 2006 there is no audience and no presenter, and the bands play in a controlled studio where sound and picture come first.

Thom Yorke recorded its pilot alone at a piano, and the first episode to go online, in December 2006, was Yorke playing new songs on his own. Radiohead then made two full sessions for it, In Rainbows in 2008 and The King of Limbs in 2011.

Godrich had been busy with other things, and felt the time was right to bring the idea into the present. I'm still just a fan, still super excited to have the opportunity to film all these great artists and have loved making these new shows.²
