Jonny Greenwood's One Battle score loses out at ASCAP's composer awards
Jonny Greenwood's score for One Battle After Another lost Film Score of the Year at ASCAP's Composers' Choice Awards on Tuesday 28 April, when the prize went to John Powell and Stephen Schwartz for Wicked: For Good. The winners were named at ASCAP Screen Celebrates in Los Angeles.
A panel of composers and people from film, television and video games drew up the shortlist of five, announced on 19 February, and ASCAP's writer members voted on it until 6 March. ASCAP says no other award from a US performing rights organisation is chosen by its own composers and songwriters.
Greenwood's score had been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Score, and in February it lost the Society of Composers & Lyricists award to Ludwig Göransson's Sinners. Wicked: For Good received no Oscar nominations at all, and Paul Grein, writing in Billboard, saw the ASCAP prize as some consolation for the film.
