Brighton Philharmonic to play Jonny Greenwood's Water
The Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra will play Jonny Greenwood's Water at Brighton Dome Concert Hall on the afternoon of Sunday 6 December. Bishi plays the Indian tanpura that sits among its strings and flutes, and Joanna MacGregor conducts. The piece takes its name and its starting point from Philip Larkin's poem “Water”.
Sibelius's The Swan of Tuonela leads into it, in a programme built around Antarctica that opens with Arvo Pärt's La Sindone. The main work is Vaughan Williams's Sinfonia antartica, which began as his score for the 1948 film Scott of the Antarctic.
