Radiohead mark 25 years of Amnesiac with a Nuremberg clip from 2001

written up for the archive

Radiohead marked 25 years of Amnesiac on 4 June, the anniversary of its UK release, by posting a live “You and Whose Army?” to their YouTube channel under the line Amnesiac is 25.1 It was filmed at Rock im Park, at Nuremberg's Frankenstadion, on 2 June 2001, two days before the album came out in Britain, so the crowd were hearing a song from a record not yet in the shops. The song was 12th in the set that night, between “Airbag” and “Karma Police”.

A shorter clip from the same performance reportedly went up beside it with the same caption. The rest of the description is given over to Motion Picture House, the Kid A Mnesia film and installation, now on sale for its first four cities.

In London, the cinema at Riverside Studios has booked Pitchblack Playback, an independent series of listening nights, to play the album in the dark on Wednesday 10 June. Nobody may talk, use a phone or sing along.

In an anniversary essay for The Quietus on 30 May, Toby Manning argued that Amnesiac, written off in 2001, picked up the doubts of the new century early, before 9/11, the Iraq war and the financial crash.
