They announced it on 22 July with the opening track, “Slower”, and a hand-drawn video by RUFFMERCY, the Bristol animator who made Thom Yorke's videos for “Suspirium” and “Has Ended” in 2018.
It is Godrich's first music as a band member since Ultraísta's Sister in 2020, and Joey Waronker, his bandmate in Ultraísta and Atoms for Peace, adds percussion. Release day is booked as a concert at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever in Los Angeles; it sold out, and on 31 July Dark Horse added a second night, on 19 September.
The two are old friends. During the pandemic Harrison asked Godrich for advice on what became his 2023 album Innerstanding, and Godrich invited him to his studio in Brixton, where they built songs from tape loops, fast and with no plan. Harrison sang and played guitar and let Godrich steer. He's a machine. He has strong opinions about what he wants to hear, and for me it's very humbling.
