Ed O'Brien says he will be back in South America, with or without Radiohead

Ed O'Brien told Chile's CHV Noticias that he is sure he will come back to South America in one form or another, with Radiohead or with his own music, though the channel says no concert there is confirmed. What he does have is concerts booked in Europe and a live band already assembled, due to start rehearsing in September; the format of the shows is not fixed.

The CHV interview ran on 10 August, and a shorter one in Ecuador's El Universo followed on 17 August. Both were about Blue Morpho, which El Universo calls his second solo album, released in May and recorded at his home in Wales. CHV traces it to a dark stretch that began in 2021. In lockdown, with his children studying remotely and his wife working, he took to playing alone behind a closed door, which he said could be a kind of therapy. The title comes from a blue morpho butterfly he saw during six months the family once spent on a farm in Brazil, and he calls the record a love letter to the Earth.

He told CHV he feels deep gratitude for meeting his four bandmates, and now sees the band's highs and lows as very beautiful. To El Universo he said he tries to set Radiohead aside a little in his own work, since it can be overwhelming, and that he is against anything to do with artificial intelligence: art, he said, needs to be made more human.
