Song · Pablo Honey era (1992–93)
Banana Co.
The band released it three times: on the radio, on a B-side, and in a studio version four years later.
feb 1993
signal radio
It is an On a Friday-era song, and the version most people heard first was acoustic, recorded for Signal Radio on 11 February 1993 and put out that spring as a B-side to “Pop Is Dead”. Mac Randall called that recording Beatlesque; the words point at multinationals and at what they do to places, the fruit company of the title standing in for all of them.
1993–96
the studio version
They cut a fuller version at Courtyard in March 1993 and thought about it for The Bends. It did not make the record. Instead it was given to a 1995 benefit compilation and then used again as a B-side on the second “Street Spirit (Fade Out)” single in 1996.
1993–98
ninety-seven nights
First played in Oxford on 20 February 1993, forty-two times that year, and then revived on the OK Computer tours.
