Live in St. Gallen (July 2016)

SRF, Swiss public television and radio, filmed the set and offered the sound of it to Europe's public radio stations.

2016

Saturday at the Sitter stage

OpenAir St. Gallen turned 40 in 2016, and Radiohead had the Saturday night of it, on the Sitter stage in the Sittertobel, the gorge of the river Sitter. The crowd did not agree about them. Gideon Gottfried, reporting for Pollstar, found some of them thrilled and some thinking the set too sombre. Sabine Bianchi of the festival took the split as a compliment.

Tina Nägeli of Radio SRF 3 had no doubts. She counted it the best two hours of the weekend, and noticed that Phil Selway was all but hidden on that huge stage while his drums could be heard across the whole gorge.

2016

two songs from the 1990s

The set opened on five songs in a row from A Moon Shaped Pool, and then reached back. “Lucky” was played on only four nights in 2016, and this was one of them. “Talk Show Host” came straight after it, with a long ending in which Jonny Greenwood plays a riff that came back as “Eyes & Mouth”, a song by The Smile, on their album Cutouts in 2024.

Roli Bärlocher directed the film for SRF, and the film's own list of songs leaves out two of the night's, “Identikit” and “Bodysnatchers”. The last song of the night was “Karma Police”, and as soon as it was over the fireworks for the festival's 40th birthday began.
