Radiohead are the first band on Late Night with Conan O'Brien

written up for the archive

Radiohead play “Creep” on tonight's Late Night with Conan O'Brien on NBC, the show's second episode and the first with a musical guest. The booking was Jim Pitt's, by his own account; he joined the programme as its music booker this year.

“Creep” is already a Top 40 single in America, and its re-release in Britain at the start of the month has taken it to number seven there. On Friday the band begin a co-headline tour of the US and Canada with Belly, in Houston.

O'Brien, who has taken over the Late Night slot from David Letterman, tells viewers he really likes the band, then says they had taken self-loathing and raised it to an art form1.
