Capitol send out Radiohead's “Just” video for the Soul Asylum tour

Capitol Records have released Jamie Thraves's video for “Just” in America, timed to Radiohead joining Soul Asylum's US tour in Denver on Wednesday 4 October. In it a man lies down in the street and will not tell the passers-by who gather round why he won't get up. The last shot is a whole street of people lying down.

Thraves, whom Capitol call a British short-film maker, cuts the man's story, told in subtitles, against the band playing the song. There are also versions with only the performance and only the story. MTV have named it a “Breakthrough” video, a category Capitol describe as for clips of special merit.

The song is already on American radio, picked up in its first weeks by Q-101 in Chicago and WDRE in New York. It follows “Fake Plastic Trees”, the first American single from The Bends and an MTV Buzz Clip. Capitol say Pablo Honey has just been certified platinum in the US, for a million copies.

The Soul Asylum run is 11 dates. Before it, Capitol say, R.E.M. took Radiohead along for several European dates and the September leg of their own US tour. In a recent Q, Thom Yorke called the R.E.M. machine astounding.

Feel 50 feet tall...This is R.E.M. and they really like us.
