Radiohead to open their European summer in a Bilbao bullring
Radiohead have confirmed two more European dates: the bullring in Bilbao, the Plaza de Toros de Vista Alegre, on 26 May, and Verona on 30 May, where the venue is still to be named. Bilbao is now the first night of the summer. Two nights later the band play the Théâtre Antique at Vaison-la-Romaine in Provence, a Roman theatre.
Rock Am Ring put Radiohead on its bill on 7 February, the first show of 2001 to be booked, and an e-mail to its mailing list said these would be the band's only gigs in Germany. They play the Nürburgring on Friday 1 June and Rock Im Park, its sister festival in Nuremberg, the next day. Pinkpop in the Netherlands follows on 4 June, the day Amnesiac comes out in Britain.
More mainland dates are expected. In February Billboard forecast a wider tour for Amnesiac than for Kid A, which reached North America for only three shows after short runs in Europe. Thom Yorke had hinted at a more conventional campaign this time, with singles and concerts.
In February a spokesperson for the band also said no British dates were confirmed, and the 2001 Glastonbury had been cancelled. There is now one, a home-town show at South Park in Oxford on 7 July.
