Radiohead premiere two Amnesiac songs at Sundance

written up for the archive

Two new songs from Amnesiac, the album due on 4 June, get their first public play tonight, Wednesday 24 January, at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. It is the first of the promotion for the record. The event, called “Sounds For Visual Thinkers”, puts the songs alongside rare B-sides and video footage of the band. Billboard reports that it goes out as a cybercast on the Warner Bros. Live Concert Series website. Colin Greenwood and Ed O'Brien have flown out for it.

Thom Yorke, posting on the band's message forum, jokes that the two have gone to join the Hollywood jet set. The real reason, he says, is that Radiohead are thinking about recording a film score some day and are waiting for the right idea, and Jonny Greenwood is keen. Yorke only understood how scoring works when he visited a smart London studio and found it was sitting in front of a screen playing along, which he does anyway. He likes the thought of making something that is not a set of songs, but it worries him too.

I worry that this will be like trying to hold water. Everytime I think about it, I see a large neon sign that says, 'Lost it'.
