Radiohead's library-book Amnesiac wins the Grammy for packaging
The special limited edition of Amnesiac won Best Recording Package at the 44th Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday, for its art directors, Stanley Donwood and Tchocky. It is a red hardback made up as a lost library book, with the CD in a library-card pocket inside the cover. The loan stamps on the card start on 29 June 1996, years before any of the album was recorded, and run on to 2012.
The package beat R.E.M.'s Reveal, David Byrne's Look Into The Eyeball, Squirrel Nut Zippers' Bedlam Ballroom and Sonny Landreth's Levee Town.
Amnesiac was also one of five records up for Best Alternative Music Album, with Björk's Vespertine, Tori Amos's Strange Little Girls and Fatboy Slim's Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars. That award went to Coldplay's Parachutes.
