Radiohead's “2+2=5”, the third single from Hail to the Thief, has gone into the Canadian singles chart at number two, kept off the top by Ryan Malcolm, the first Canadian Idol winner, whose “Something More” has been number one since October.
A month before anyone could buy it, the song was number one in NME's Top Ten, the chart its readers vote for and Zane Lowe counts down every evening on MTV2. It went top for the week of 19 October. NME put it down to unofficial MTV footage of the song, and called it the first week the chart had ever had without The Darkness.
In Britain the single came out on 17 November and went into the UK Singles Chart at number 15. Jamie Gill, reviewing it for Dotmusic, gave it seven out of ten and joked that it very nearly has a tune.
