Colin Greenwood on why the album is called Hail to the Thief

first posted on Treefingers by Miro · rewritten for the archive

Radiohead called the album Hail to the Thief because they did not want to be subtle about where they stand on world politics, Colin Greenwood tells Launch.

Hail to the Thief is at number three on the Billboard 200, and Launch puts its sales down to “There There”, MTV's play of the video and the band's shows around New York in early June, the last of them the Field Day festival at Giants Stadium.

The title, Colin says, was about shaking hands with the world as we all find it, rather than sort of hiding in a bunker1.
