Radiohead change nine songs for their second Dublin night
On their second night at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin, Sunday 18 May, Radiohead played nine songs they had left out the night before. The report that reached us from the hall has the crowd clapping flamenco-style through one of them, “Morning Bell”, and Thom Yorke introducing another, a rare “Kid A”, as the one with the very different keyboard part. NME calls it a completely different set, though 14 songs stayed from Saturday, and singles out “Kid A” and “Fake Plastic Trees” as the rarities.
The two Olympia nights open the band's run of small halls in Ireland and Britain ahead of Hail to the Thief, out on 9 June, their smallest shows in either country in years, with tickets sold only through the band's website. Fans queued for hours before the doors, as they had on the first night, some of them from Japan and the United States.
The same report has “There There” and “2 + 2 = 5” opening again, with Yorke taking photographs of the crowd. Before “No Surprises” he joked that his guitar was not working, and he billed “Paranoid Android” as a dangerous song. The sound was better than on the first night.
U2's The Edge, who lives nearby, watched from the audience, and our report has Bono there too. Some hours after the show Yorke spent time with the fans waiting outside.
