Radiohead switch on radiohead.tv, their own web television station
Radiohead's web television station, radiohead.tv, began broadcasting at 1pm on Monday 9 June, the day Hail to the Thief is released in Britain, and is to stay on air for the whole of the album's campaign. Thom Yorke wanted it called www.the-most-gigantic-lying-mouth-of-all-time.com, a band spokesperson told NME, but radiohead.tv will do for ease of reference.
Its first email to registered users announced that the most gigantic lying mouth of all time was now speaking, with the first half-hour programme and the full “There There” video, and warned that programmes commence on the hour every hour
4, so anyone tuning in late misses part of the broadcast. Besides its own programmes, the station carries promo videos and footage webcast from concerts and the studio. Fans are asked to send tapes or video files of their own pictures set to the new songs, and the band will choose from them, edit them together and screen them.
The address has been up since 28 April as a sign-up page. Registered users saw clips of the “There There” video there on 2 May, and the full video, with a three-minute trailer for the channel, on 12 May.
A new radiohead.com went up the same day, and its news page links to fan sites, Treefingers included. The station's first email had a word for the relaunch too, saying the band's website had at last been upholstered in crushed velvet.
