Jonny Greenwood and the London Sinfonietta to play two Ether nights

Jonny Greenwood will play two nights with the London Sinfonietta at the Royal Festival Hall's Ether Festival, on Sunday 27 and Monday 28 March, with new arrangements of Radiohead songs and new music from Thom Yorke on the bill.
Greenwood is this year's main collaborator in the Sinfonietta's Ether programme, which pairs the orchestra with musicians from pop's electronic fringe. Its concerts sold out at the last two festivals, so this year there are two evenings, both at 7.30pm, with tickets at £15 to £25.
He will present “Smear”, the piece he wrote for the Sinfonietta for the Fuse festival in Leeds in 2004. He has also chosen music that has inspired him and Radiohead, by Ligeti, Penderecki and Messiaen. The Messiaen is a movement of the Quartet for the End of Time arranged for six ondes Martenots, the early electronic instrument Greenwood has played on Radiohead records since Kid A.
Members of the Nazareth Orchestra, Arab and Israeli musicians, will play songs associated with Oum Kolthoum, the great voice of the Arab world in the 1930s and 1940s, with the singer Lubna Salame. The Festival Hall's magazine says they were asked because of the hold Middle Eastern music has on Greenwood's writing.
Radiohead Television will be on screen throughout both nights, with video, animation and music from Hail to the Thief, and tracks that have not been released.
