Stanley Donwood shows linocuts of a ruined London at Lazarides

written up for the archive

Stanley Donwood is to put on his first solo exhibition, “London Views”, at Lazarides on Greek Street from 19 May. It runs for a month. Donwood has made Radiohead's sleeves and posters since 1994, when his first job for them was the My Iron Lung EP, and he and Thom Yorke won a Grammy for Best Recording Package in 2002 for the special edition of Amnesiac.

The show is 13 prints of present-day London laid waste, each a panorama seen from the Thames. Big Ben, Canary Wharf and the dome of St Paul's are all in ruins. Donwood cut every one into linoleum himself, with a single small tool.
