The band had nothing to do with it. BBE gathered the covers it liked best, and the title plays on “heads” as in beat-makers.
Mark Ronson's “Just”, sung by Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet, came out first as a single on 13 March. It also leads the first of three 12-inch EPs that BBE is cutting from the album.
“Morning Bell” goes to the Randy Watson Experience, the duo of ?uestlove of The Roots and the keyboard player James Poyser, named after the lounge singer in Coming to America. The Cinematic Orchestra close the record with the song that gave it its name, “Exit Music (For A Film)”.
The Guardian has given it one star out of five. Dave Simpson dismisses it as a ragbag of little-known acts and free-jazz noodling, picks out Pete Kuzma's soft-rock “High and Dry” and The Bad Plus's “Karma Police” as the worst of it, and reckons Radiohead themselves have never been this pompous or this ludicrous. The world, he adds, is not ready to picture Thom Yorke with a goatee.
