Radiohead in talks to sell In Rainbows on iTunes

written up for the archive

Radiohead's camp are in talks with Apple about selling In Rainbows through the iTunes store, Bryce Edge, one of the band's managers, has told Billboard. Apple declined to comment. None of the band's EMI albums is on iTunes, because Radiohead insist their records stay whole; the only songs of theirs on the store came by way of soundtracks and compilations.

The name-your-price download from the band's website closes on 10 December. The album goes on sale in the usual places on 31 December through XL Recordings outside the US, with ATO Records releasing it there on 1 January. Warner/Chappell will handle all the digital rights in the album as a one-stop shop, so anyone licensing it can go around the label and the collecting societies. Jane Dyball, Warner/Chappell's senior vice-president of European legal and business affairs, calls it an experimental solution2.

In September the UK download shop 7digital began selling the albums on the band's terms, as whole records with no single tracks.
