Radiohead start the album after In Rainbows with Nigel Godrich
Radiohead went into the studio with Nigel Godrich last week to start work on their eighth album, Colin Greenwood told the BBC and NME at the weekend. He was at the Great Escape in Brighton, taking part in the conference. Drowned in Sound reports that the band are working at their studio in Oxford.
The first sessions, Greenwood says, have been noisy, chaotic and great fun. We're at the stage where we've got the big Lego box out and we've tipped it out on the floor and we're looking at all the bits and thinking, what next?

It is early days, he says, like keeping a scrapbook, and it is good to be back in the studio. He gives Godrich the credit for keeping the peace. He can make everything sound like it's working together rather than us trying to kill each other.

Ed O'Brien talked of new material in March, days before the Latin American dates that finished the In Rainbows tour. The only Radiohead dates still ahead are this summer's festivals, Reading and Leeds included.
Whether fans will again choose what to pay, as they did for In Rainbows, is an open question. The band have plenty of ideas but decide nothing until it is done. It's all up in the air, but it was up in the air last time.
