Modeselektor release “This” with Thom Yorke as a yellow 7-inch

Modeselektor, the Berlin electronic duo, have released “This”, their track with Thom Yorke, as a single on their own label, Monkeytown Records. The 7-inch is pressed on yellow vinyl and limited to 1,000 copies, with a download alongside. Its B-side, “All Buttons In”, is built from the vocal takes Yorke recorded for “This”, cut into pieces and stacked in layers over a little static.

“This” comes from Monkeytown, the album the duo put out last autumn, on which Yorke sings two tracks. The other is “Shipwreck”. Yorke joined Modeselektor on stage at Coachella last month.

The video went up the same day, directed by Future Deluxe, a London agency. A hooded figure makes a human-shaped puppet dance, while spinning tops, rocking horses and toy monkeys banging on percussion move about on their own. About three minutes in, bright animation breaks into the film. The figure under the hood is not Yorke, who stays out of the picture just as he did in the “Shipwreck” video last October.
