Thom Yorke pays tribute to Adam Yauch

Thom Yorke has written on Dead Air Space, the band's blog, of how sad he was to hear that Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys had died yesterday, 4 May. We looked up to the Beastie Boys a lot when we were starting out and how they maintained artistic control making wicked records but still were on a major label¹, he writes.

The Tibetan Freedom Concerts the Beastie Boys organised had a big influence on Yorke personally, and the way Yauch carried himself through it all impressed him. In the same post Yorke points to a project mapping the world's strange weather, and he ends it with a music list that includes “Shake Your Rump” from Paul's Boutique. Of Yauch himself, Yorke says He was a mellow and v smart guy.¹
