Jonny Greenwood leaves Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride
Jonny Greenwood is no longer scoring The Bride, Maggie Gyllenhaal's second film as director. Hildur Guðnadóttir, who wrote the music for Joker, Chernobyl and Tár, has taken over, Film Music Reporter wrote on 2 May. Jordan Ruimy of World of Reel had the same news that day, with no reason given for the change.
The film takes its cue from the 1935 Bride of Frankenstein, with Frankenstein in 1930s Chicago bringing a murdered young woman back to life as his companion. Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley star. Ruimy counts the new composer as one of several changes on a production he calls troubled, after weak test screenings and Warner Bros.' decision to move the release from October to 6 March 2026.
