Thom Yorke's Confidenza music misses out at the David di Donatello
Thom Yorke won neither of his two David di Donatello awards on Wednesday 7 May, losing best composer and best original song to Margherita Vicario's Gloria!. Vicario and Davide Pavanello took the composer prize for their score, and “Aria!”, sung by Vicario, took the song prize. Yorke was nominated in both for Daniele Luchetti's Confidenza.
The 70th awards were presented at Teatro 5 in Cinecittà, Rome. Gloria!, Vicario's first film as a director, also won best debut.
Confidenza is Luchetti's film of Domenico Starnone's novel, with Elio Germano. It opened in Italian cinemas in April 2024, when Yorke's soundtrack came out on XL. In February it made the first shortlist the Davids have ever published for best composer, one of 15 films, and the nominations on 7 April put Yorke in the final five for both prizes.
His nominated song was “Knife Edge”, one of only two tracks on Yorke's 12-track Confidenza soundtrack with his voice on it; the other is “Four Ways In Time”. The nomination credits the music, the words and the performance all to him.
