The only song that was in the movie that was not written into the script was the Radiohead song
1, the director, Nia DaCosta, told IndieWire. Alex Garland's script named three Duran Duran songs, though he let her use one of them a little differently.
Ralph Fiennes' character, Dr Ian Kelson, is the one who plays it. Once a GP, Kelson now keeps a memorial to the people killed by the rage virus and cleans their bones. In his Turning Out newsletter, Eric Webb reads the scene as showing that the song is as sacred to Kelson as that ritual. Kelson's records also supply Iron Maiden's “The Number Of The Beast”; DaCosta calls the Duran Duran songs right for him, and tender.
