The band played no set at the festival. The installation opened the Bunker, a space Goldenvoice built about two storeys below ground at the Empire Polo Club for this year, on Friday 10 April.
At its centre is a 75-minute film on a loop in the Motion Picture House, a trapezoid room with a screen on each of its four walls, where people sit or lie on the floor. The animation is by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood, and the music is built new from the sounds of Kid A and Amnesiac. Yorke describes a film in which a Monster is trapped in a derelict museum of the lost and forgotten
3.
Entry was free to festival-goers who signed up for a timed session. The first showing ended in long applause, though the Desert Sun's reviewer found the film deliberately disorienting and a little long. After Indio the installation is due to travel to Brooklyn, Chicago, San Francisco and Mexico City.
Elsewhere in the Bunker, through rooms of fog, are Donwood's art from the Kid A years, a fax, typed pages and blown-up scraps of Yorke's handwritten lyrics.
