Radiohead open with “You” for Belly at Jannus Landing
Radiohead opened for Belly at Jannus Landing in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Wednesday 22 September, and started their set with “You”. About 600 people came, and Julie Richardson, reviewing the night for the St. Petersburg Times, noted that they had picked the concert over an evening of hearing about a national health plan.
The band played songs from Pablo Honey. Thom Yorke's acoustic guitar led three guitars thick with distortion and treble, under a voice Richardson heard as powerful and howling, and she found the result big and layered.
Most of the crowd stayed calm through Radiohead's set. A few at the front tried stage-diving, and were lifted up and passed over the heads of the audience.
Belly, fronted by Tanya Donelly, formerly of Throwing Muses and the Breeders, headlined. The two bands are on a six-week tour together, and Richardson put Belly's strength in their rhythm where Radiohead's was the guitars.
