Thom Yorke plays solo at Live 105's free show in San Francisco
Thom Yorke played four songs on his own at a free Live 105 show in Justin Herman Plaza, San Francisco, on Sunday 11 July, and opened with a Tim Buckley song, “Sing a Song for You” from his 1969 album Happy Sad. The other three were Radiohead's: “Thinking About You” and “Creep” from Pablo Honey, and the unreleased “Killer Cars”.
Live 105, the city's modern-rock station, had Radiohead on the bill with the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and the Trash Can Sinatras, but only Yorke came; the notes with the tape say the other four were saving themselves for the band's show that night.
Tony Alves's 13 photographs of the set show Yorke alone on the stage in daylight, with an acoustic guitar, sunglasses and a striped long-sleeved top. An audience tape of the set survives, and its notes put it at about 15 minutes, with some sardonic talk between the songs.
In the evening the full band played Slim's, nine songs with “Creep” second.
