Radiohead wake up the Edgefest crowd in Toronto
Radiohead played the second day of Edgefest at the Ontario Place Forum in Toronto last Friday, 2 July, and Kim Hughes writes in NOW Magazine that the crowd on the lawns only came alive when they appeared. “Creep” got the strongest reaction of the set.
The stage revolved, and the band began tentatively, as if it had thrown them, before they found their footing in the songs from Pablo Honey. Colin Greenwood stayed close to Phil Selway's drums while Ed O'Brien and Jonny Greenwood stood almost still, which left the stage to Thom Yorke. Hughes calls him small, and says he filled it anyway, wailing and shaking his hair through “Ripcord” and “Anyone Can Play Guitar”.
Radiohead were third of four, after Furnaceface and the Judybats, in front of 4,500 people. The first day had been for Canadian bands and the second for acts from abroad, and Hughes found the second the less spirited of the two.
Hughes also passes on a rumour that they will tour with Belly in the autumn, with a Toronto date likely in October.
