Radiohead played the Caird Hall in Dundee on Friday, on the UK leg of the OK Computer tour, and Thom Yorke dedicated a song to Lundin Links, the village on the Fife coast south of the city, where I spent much of my childhood1. He did it, the reviewer from The Herald noted, without any sign of playing to the locals.

The review, out today, takes Yorke for the most compelling kind of rock star, likeable and sensible. He is sometimes charmingly self-deprecating, and his outsized trousers put the reviewer in mind of Chaplin. The songs are built on quiet, pretty passages answered by bursts of noise, and the band keep finding melodic surprises inside that pattern.

Three B-sides made the set, “Bishop's Robes”, “Talk Show Host” and the second part of “Polyethylene”. Yorke introduced “Paranoid Android”, the paper reports, as a fierce denunciation of cocaine. The night ended with “Thinking About You” from Pablo Honey, played on its own as a third encore.
