Radiohead played a fan-club night at the London Astoria on Wednesday, and Thom Yorke went on after being up all night with food poisoning. If I pass out, please catch me2, he told the crowd.

The show, the night after the UK tour opened at the Dome in Doncaster, was for fan-club members, with a few tickets for everyone else at the box office. When NME announced it last week, Ed O'Brien promised a different set with a section of nothing but B-sides, a thank-you and a bit of self-indulgence. It's a chance for us to be as obscure as we like!3 He also said the band have been writing on the road in North America, and pointed to “Meeting in the Aisle”, the instrumental B-side of “Karma Police”, as heading somewhere they have never been.

There were fewer B-sides than rumoured, NME found: “Maquiladora”, “Talk Show Host” and “A Reminder”, with “Banana Co.” and the Pablo Honey song “Lurgee” alongside them.

Mat Smith, reviewing the night for NME, thought the B-sides were played dutifully and liked the hypnotic songs best, above all “My Iron Lung”. Next to the band's Glastonbury set, which he counts as career-defining, the night fell short for him, and he left wondering why they had put it on.

Yorke opened the encore alone with an early version of “Motion Picture Soundtrack”, which the setlist records with a third verse and a second chorus. The band had teased Carly Simon's “Nobody Does It Better” at the end of “No Surprises”, and came back and played it.
