The Bends climbs to number two in Virgin's all-time albums poll
The Bends is the second-best album ever made in the new edition of the Virgin All Time Top 1000 Albums, up from number 10 two years ago. OK Computer has climbed from 21 to number four. The Beatles' Revolver stays at number one, and The Bends finishes above Sgt Pepper.
The book, the poll's third edition, draws on more than 200,000 votes from musicians, writers, people in the industry and fans, and takes other published polls into account.
Colin Larkin, who started the survey in 1993, says votes for Radiohead flooded in this time, and calls their rise phenomenal. No other band, not even Pink Floyd, has ever come close to giving the Fab Four a run for their money.

Before now the only band besides the Beatles to reach the top five was Nirvana, whose Nevermind was fourth last time and is 17th now. Most of the Britpop bands that did well in 1998 have fallen away, Larkin says, and Oasis show how far. (What's The Story) Morning Glory? drops from nine to 21, and Be Here Now from 36 to 459.
