Radiohead play Can's “Thief” for the first time in Copenhagen
Radiohead put a new cover into their first encore in Copenhagen on Friday night, Can's late-1960s song “Thief”, which they had never played before. It was the second of two nights in their touring tent, pitched beside Valby Hallen rather than inside it, and the first shows since the tent run opened at Tredegar House in Newport last week. Sigur Rós, the Icelandic band whose album Thom Yorke praised in June after they posted it to him, opened both nights.
Thursday brought back “Permanent Daylight”, the old My Iron Lung B-side the band dusted off in Newport.
Kid A is not out until 2 October, and the band played six of its songs both nights, with “Everything in Its Right Place” closing the main set each time. “Dollars and Cents” and “Pyramid Song”, which are not on the record, came both nights too; many fans still know the second as “Egyptian Song”.
