Radio 2 to give Radiohead's “Life in a Glasshouse” its first play

written up for the archive

BBC Radio 2 will give the first play to “Life in a Glasshouse”, the track Radiohead recorded with the jazz trumpeter and bandleader Humphrey Lyttelton, on 21 May. Lyttelton plays it himself in Courtney Pine Celebrates Humph at 80, a programme in which he talks the saxophonist Courtney Pine through his life and music. It is one of several the BBC is running for his 80th birthday, which falls two days later.

The song closes Amnesiac, out on 4 June. Lyttelton came to it after Jonny Greenwood wrote to say the band were a bit stuck; he borrowed a copy of OK Computer, and brought five musicians to the session. It was a very heavy day.1 Whenever he had a take he liked, the band suggested food and then more takes, and he declined.

People had said to me they were all crazy, but in fact we had a good time
