Radiohead lose the Mercury to a PJ Harvey album Thom Yorke sings on
Radiohead's Amnesiac lost the 2001 Mercury Music Prize in London on the evening of 11 September to PJ Harvey's Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea, a record Thom Yorke sings on. He shares the lead vocal with Harvey on “This Mess We're In”, sings backing vocals on “One Line” and “Beautiful Feeling”, and plays keyboards on “One Line”.
Radiohead are on tour in Europe and spent the night playing the Parkbühne Wuhlheide in Berlin.
Harvey, stranded in Washington DC after the day's terrorist attacks in the United States, spoke to the ceremony by telephone. She is the first woman to win the £20,000 prize in her own name. It has been a very surreal day. All I can say is thank you very much, I am absolutely stunned.
