Thom Yorke dedicates “Street Spirit” in Belfast to stranded Americans

written up for the archive

Just before “Street Spirit (Fade Out)” at the Odyssey in Belfast on 14 September, Thom Yorke dedicated the song to the people affected by the attacks on New York and Washington on 11 September, and to any Americans currently trying to get back home1. With flights in and out of the United States restricted, many of them cannot.

Belfast was the last European night of a short run through Stockholm, Oslo and Berlin, where the band played on the day of the attacks. Japan comes next, with shows in Osaka, Tokyo and Yokohama from the end of September. The set ran to three encores. Yorke opened the second alone with “True Love Waits”, and “How to Disappear Completely” closed the night.
