Thom Yorke calls “Myxomatosis” a birthday song in Atlanta

first posted on Treefingers by Miro, Amie · rewritten for the archive

Radiohead played the HiFi Buys Amphitheatre in Atlanta on Monday 6 October, the eve of Thom Yorke's 35th birthday, and he introduced “Myxomatosis” as a birthday song. Two songs later came “In Limbo”, from Kid A, played for the first time on the 2003 tour.

The Atlanta station 99X, which has Radiohead as its artist of the month, broadcast the whole show live from 8.30pm with no adverts. It repeats the concert on Sunday 12 October from 10pm to midnight, on 99.7 FM and online.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's reviewer took the tour as a lap of honour for a band 10 years on the international circuit who have never fitted rock's rules. Beats and textures now come before melody, the review says. On stage it works. In “There There” Jonny Greenwood and Ed O'Brien joined Phil Selway on drums, and “Idioteque” became a percussion piece for the whole band.
