Radiohead played the Sound Advice Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach on Saturday night, and Thom Yorke opened the first encore by dedicating “We Suck Young Blood” to Clear Channel, the radio and concert company that owns the amphitheatre and is promoting the tour. When the crowd booed the name, he shook his head.

Oh, they're really nice. Really.

The show sold out, more than 18,000 people for the band's first visit to South Florida since the Miami Arena in September 1995. Evelyn McDonnell, reviewing for the Miami Herald, calls it the concert event of the year.

Supergrass opened with 40 minutes to patches of empty seats while the late crowd filled in, and both bands dedicated songs to the fans on the lawn, many of whom sang along to “Karma Police”.

Yorke came on in a black leather jacket for “2+2=5”, three guitars going at once. He said little beyond a couple of hellos and some song titles, but mugged for the cameras feeding the screens either side of the stage and danced wildly. About halfway through he started “Paranoid Android” on acoustic guitar, and Jonny Greenwood's riff in it set the crowd off. In one song Greenwood and Ed O'Brien caught Yorke's voice on the spot, twisted it and slowed it to a dead stop to end the piece.

By the end of the two hours the two guitarists were on their knees at their effects boxes, bending samples of the band into a wall of sound, and the night closed with Yorke and the audience chanting “Everything in Its Right Place” together.
