A Hail to the Thief canvas signed by Radiohead goes to auction in Athens
first posted on Treefingers by Miro · rewritten for the archive
Minos EMI, the Greek arm of the label, is auctioning online 25 signed panels cut from a giant painting of the Hail to the Thief cover. Bidding opened on 18 December and closes at 12:00 GMT on 18 January 2005. The auction page says the money raised goes to Médecins Sans Frontières.
When the album came out in June 2003, the Athens artist Katerina Vagia recreated Stanley Donwood's cover in oil and acrylics on a canvas 9.70m by 11m, and it hung at EMI's offices in Athens. Once it came down, the canvas was cut into panels of different sizes and sent to the band to sign.
