Haley Joel Osment, Michael Stipe and Chuck Palahniuk on Radiohead

first posted on Treefingers by Miro · rewritten for the archive

Haley Joel Osment, the Academy Award nominated actor, tells the Grand Rapids Press that he is big on guitar music, being a guitarist himself, and names R.E.M., Radiohead and Coldplay.

The Observer asked a Sheffield family about their favourite music. The father, David Ainsly, likes current bands, Radiohead included, though he finds them such posers that he sometimes shouts at them and turns them off. His son Tim, who is 14, likes Busted, and says Radiohead make him want to be sick.

Nelly Furtado tells The Independent that she likes to travel at a slower pace, and always thinks of the refrain of “The Tourist”, which asks for exactly that.

Asked by The Times for the last record he bought, Michael Stipe of R.E.M. names Hail to the Thief.

I think it's tremendous.

The DJ Tiësto tells Remix that he likes the darker, melancholic side of bands such as Radiohead and Sigur Rós, and wants that mood in his own music.

The novelist Chuck Palahniuk tells BBC 6 Music that he writes to one track on repeat, for weeks, to keep the mood of a book steady. For his second novel, Survivor, it was “Creep”. The upshot, he says, was that no one in the household ever wanted to hear Radiohead ever again.6
