written up for the archive

Thom Yorke's The Eraser is one of 12 albums on this year's Nationwide Mercury Prize shortlist, announced on the morning of 18 July at the Commonwealth Club in London. It has been in the shops for eight days, and William Hill already have Yorke joint favourite with Arctic Monkeys at 5/1, Glide Magazine reports.

The 12 judges picked the list from more than 200 albums entered by labels, and the winner of the £20,000 prize is named in London on 5 September. HMV's Gary Rolfe called it a pretty classic Mercury nominees list2 and tipped Richard Hawley and Guillemots.
