The Easy Star All-Stars remake OK Computer as reggae
The Easy Star All-Stars, the collective behind the reggae label Easy Star Records, have re-recorded every song on OK Computer as reggae, for an album called Radiodread that is due in late August. Radiohead had no part in it.
Toots and the Maytals sing “Let Down” and Horace Andy takes “Airbag”. On 20 July NPR's All Songs Considered played the Meditations' “No Surprises”, a return to the programme for a group it first played with Dub Side of the Moon, their 2003 remake of Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon.
Lem Oppenheimer, one of the collective, says he found humour as well as hope in the words of OK Computer. Reggae music, born in opposition to colonial oppression, conveys hope in the bleakest moments.
