Thom Yorke's The Eraser charts at two in America, three in Britain
Thom Yorke's The Eraser has gone in at number two on the Billboard 200, selling 90,000 copies in the week to 16 July. The only album to sell more was the compilation Now That's What I Call Music! 22, with about 398,000.
In Britain, where XL put the record out on 10 July, a day before America, it went in at number three on the chart published on Sunday 16 July. It was the week's highest new entry, with only Muse's Black Holes & Revelations and The Kooks' Inside In/Inside Out above it.
On the Billboard 200 that is one place higher than Radiohead's Hail to the Thief went in three years ago, on 300,000 copies in its first week. Kid A, which went in at number one in 2000, is still the band's highest American entry.
