Radiohead open their first tour since 2004 in Copenhagen with eight new songs

Radiohead's first tour since 2004 opened at KB Hallen in Copenhagen on Saturday 6 May with eight unreleased songs, meant for the follow-up to Hail to the Thief. In the first encore “Let Down” came back for its first performance since April 1998, and “Black Star” was played for the first time since January 1998.

Most of the new songs had never been played live. Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood had played “Bodysnatchers” as a duo at KOKO in London five days earlier, and “Nude” is an old song in a new arrangement. On “Bangers + Mash”, NME reports from the first night, Yorke sang and played drums alongside Phil Selway, and on “4 Minute Warning” he was at the piano with Ed O'Brien on acoustic guitar.

NME says the new songs go back to guitars, often with Yorke, Greenwood and O'Brien all playing at once. It picks out “15 Step”, with a dance beat that recalls “Idioteque”, as the one least like the rest.

On the second night, Sunday, “Arpeggi” was played by the full band for the first time, after Yorke and Greenwood had tried it as a duo at KOKO.
