Radiohead slip “True Love Waits” into the encore outside Denver
Radiohead played the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, outside Denver, on 13 March, and in the first encore used “True Love Waits” as the intro to “Everything In Its Right Place”.
Thom Yorke was in the mood to talk. Five songs in, after “Morning Mr Magpie”, he asked the crowd where on earth the band were, somewhere on the ground near some mountains. I mean, I, like, know we're outside Denver,
1 he said after the next song, “Staircase”. Dave Herrera, reviewing the night for Westword, watched him dance hard through most of those first five songs.
A crew member told Herrera that the band had swapped songs on their setlist during the night. “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi” stood in for “How to Disappear Completely”, “There There” for “These Are My Twisted Words”, and “Myxomatosis” for “You and Whose Army?”.
Herrera's high point came at the start of the second encore, when Yorke and Jonny Greenwood came back alone for “Give Up the Ghost”, Yorke looping his own voice over an acoustic guitar.
Before “The Amazing Sounds of Orgy” Yorke told the story of the song. The band had written it at least ten years earlier, about the banks collapsing, and then he had forgotten all about it. I forgot about the song until I came into rehearsals and said I think we should do this song. It makes sense now.
