Radiohead's “Everything In Its Right Place” scores Greenpeace's polar bear film

written up for the archive

Greenpeace has released A Homeless Polar Bear in London, a film for its Save the Arctic campaign narrated by Jude Law and set to Radiohead's “Everything In Its Right Place”, from Kid A. A polar bear driven out of the Arctic by climate change ends up living in London. Greenpeace says it teamed up with Radiohead and Law to make it.

Law says melting sea ice is pushing polar bears far outside their usual range, and that he stands with the hundreds of thousands who want the Arctic made a sanctuary. Greenpeace says Shell's Arctic fleet will arrive any day now to start exploratory drilling off Alaska this summer.

Thom Yorke has backed the campaign in a statement for Greenpeace, and signed the Arctic Scroll, a list of names calling for a sanctuary around the North Pole, closed to offshore oil drilling and unsustainable fishing. Radiohead's name was among the first hundred on the scroll when Greenpeace launched it at the Rio+20 Earth Summit on 21 June. Once it holds a million names, Greenpeace plans to plant it on the seabed about 4 km (2.5 miles) beneath the Pole. I'll know whenever I look north that my name is planted at the bottom of the ocean at the top of the world1, Yorke says.
