A Moon Shaped Pool is Radiohead's sixth UK number one album
A Moon Shaped Pool entered the Official UK Albums Chart at number one on Friday 13 May, Radiohead's sixth number one album after OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief and In Rainbows.
The album went on sale at 7pm on Sunday 8 May, so it missed more than two days of the Friday-to-Thursday chart week. It was on sale only as a download, with the CD and vinyl not due until 17 June, and Spotify had just two of its songs, “Burn the Witch” and “Daydreaming”. At Monday's midweek count it was third, behind Skepta's Konnichiwa and Beyoncé's Lemonade. By Friday it had passed both, leaving Konnichiwa, Skepta's first top ten album, at number two and Lemonade at three.
In the US it entered the Billboard 200 at number three, with the equivalent of 181,000 albums in its first week, 173,000 of them sales of the album itself. Drake's Views held the top for a second week, with Lemonade second. Hail to the Thief entered at number three too, in 2003; only Kid A and In Rainbows have gone to number one there.
In Australia, Keith Urban's Ripcord kept it at number two. Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief, In Rainbows and The King of Limbs all stopped there as well, so that is six Radiohead albums in a row at number two, and the band still have no Australian number one.
