Radiohead close Lollapalooza Berlin 15 years after their 2001 Berlin show

Radiohead headlined the second and last night of Lollapalooza Berlin in Treptower Park on Sunday 11 September, 15 years to the day after they played the city's Parkbühne Wuhlheide on the evening of the attacks in the United States. Damian Fowler was at both and wrote up the two nights for The Guardian. He remembers the 2001 show as tense and rained on, and found this crowd of about 60,000 mellow and relaxed.

The booking had been news since February, when Fact reported that the band would close the Sunday, with Major Lazer the festival's other headliner. The first Lollapalooza Berlin, in 2015, was held on the disused Tempelhof airport, but by late summer 2016 nearly 1,500 refugees were living there, German newspapers reported, and the festival moved to Treptower Park, beside the Spree.

A pro-shot video of the whole set, over two hours of it, was online within four days, posted by JamBase with the setlist. The band opened under red light with the first five songs of A Moon Shaped Pool in album order, Jonny Greenwood bowing his guitar at the start of “Burn the Witch”. In the second encore “Creep” took the place the printed setlist gave to “Give Up the Ghost”, and the night ended with “Karma Police”, the crowd singing its closing line back to the stage.
